A message from Heather Day,  President of Poult Wood Golf Course:

I think that Poult Wood is a very special club and I am very proud to be your President, especially in this 50th Anniversary year. It is a very special club where everyone is equal and everyone mixes in.
But what makes a Club –
Well, it starts with the Management and I can honestly say that since TMActive have taken over the course has seen many changes and improvements thanks to the investment made by them. When Martin Guyton took over, he realised what a gem he had here and promised to make it the best course he could. So, a big thank you to TMActive for their continued support and investment. Also, for generously allowing us the use of the course this morning without green fees. Unfortunately, neither Martin nor David Sayle (who played on the morning) could be with us this evening.
Then we have our wonderful Greenkeepers. Nick and his team have done such a great job in improving the course and keeping it in great condition. It hasn’t been easy with the extremely dry summers and wet winters but I think you’ll agree, they do a great job. It was lovely to see them out playing this morning.
Then we have Katie, the Pro shop and the Wardens who manage the day to day running of the Club and greet us when we arrive. They do a great job.
Then after our round we all want a drink and maybe something to eat. A comfortable place to talk through your round, the good. the bad and the unlucky shots and how we should have played better! A big thank you to Mark and his team for providing a welcoming atmosphere in the bar with excellent food and drink.
We are very lucky to have all these wonderful people running the course and clubhouse but you know what really makes this club special is all the members. I believe that this is a very welcoming club to everyone and the Mixed event days are always a great success with the men putting their names down as soon as the list goes up. I think that is very unique and very special.
All of this is down to the vision and drive of one man, Sydney Simmons. He found the plot of land and persuaded the Borough Council to build a golf course for the benefit of the local people. If he was here today, he would be very proud to see how this club has thrived and will continue to do so.
A last thank you to my fellow committee members who have helped to make this day happen – Julian, Simon & Mark.
